Content Rotation

Content rotation automatically cycles through different pieces of content on a digital signage screen, keeping the display fresh and engaging.

What Is Content Rotation?

Content rotation is the automatic cycling of different content items on a digital signage screen. Instead of showing a single static image all day, the display rotates through a playlist of items — each appearing for a set duration before moving to the next.

How It Works

Content rotation is configured through your CMS:

  1. Create a playlist and add your content items
  2. Set the display duration for each item (e.g., 10 seconds for images, full length for videos)
  3. Choose a rotation mode — sequential, random, or weighted
  4. Assign the playlist to one or more screens

Rotation Modes

  • Sequential — items play in order, top to bottom, then loop
  • Random / Shuffle — items play in random order; good for keeping content feeling fresh
  • Weighted — certain items appear more frequently (useful for priority promotions or sponsors)

Best Practices

  • Vary content types — mix images, videos, and data widgets for visual interest
  • Keep durations appropriate — 8–15 seconds for images, full length for videos, 15–30 seconds for data-heavy content
  • Don't overcrowd — 5–10 items per rotation keeps each piece visible enough to register with viewers
  • Combine with scheduling — rotate different playlists at different times of day
