What Is Uptime Monitoring?

Uptime monitoring in digital signage is the continuous tracking of whether your screens and media players are online, connected, and functioning correctly. When a device goes offline or encounters a problem, the system alerts you so you can respond quickly.

What It Tracks

• Online/offline status — is the player connected to the internet and your CMS?
• Last check-in time — when did the player last communicate with the server?
• Content sync status — is the player showing the latest content?
• Hardware health — storage space, memory usage, temperature (on supported devices)
• Display status — is the screen powered on? (on players that support CEC)

Why It Matters

A blank or malfunctioning screen is worse than no screen at all. It makes your organization look unprofessional and means your content isn't reaching its audience. Without monitoring, you might not discover a downed screen for hours or days — especially in remote locations.

Alert Types

• Offline alerts — notification when a player hasn't checked in for a defined period
• Content sync failures — alert when a player fails to download new content
• Storage warnings — notification when local storage is running low
